Illegal liquor sales, irregular supply of drinking water, clogging of storm water drains, substandard school works were among the complaints received during the monthly phone-in programme at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office, here on Thursday.

Suresh from Manuganahalli, near Saligrama in K R Nagar taluk, complained that cheap liquor is being sold in his village. Kumar from Kadakola, who also had a similar complaint, said there is both illegal sales of liquor and sand mining in his village.

A Gram Panchayat member from Hommaragalli exhorted the Deputy Commissioner to take measures to ensure regular water supply. Besides, there is a shortage of certificates at Nada Kacheri, he added.

Shivaraj, from Ilapura in Periyapatna taluk, complained about the absence of a water tank in his village that is thickly populated. Rajugowda from  T Narsipur drew the attention of the authorities towards substandard works in building the compound of Morarji Desai Model Residential School at B Seehalli.

Kashi from Hullahalli questioned the officials for not initiating disciplinary action against the panchayat development officer (PDO) accused of grave irregularities. The PDO has been transfered elsewhere.

At Halagaiahanahundi, a realtor is developing a layout on government land, another man alleged.

Devaraj from Bhugatagahalli complained about the delay in issuing compensation for his land acquired for some works.

Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, who replied on case-to-case basis, directed DySP (Excise) Vanajakshi to take measures to check the sales of liquor at tribal hamlets.

The drives should be held on a continuous basis, especially against petty shops in villages, that have been selling liquor illegally, she added.

Vanajakshi informed her that the department is taking action against such cases and ten cases have been registered in this connection so far.

Water problem
For the complaint about drinking water at Hommaragalli, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer P A Gopal said the village has been included under multi-village drinking water supply scheme. Till then, temporary arrangements have been made to supply water,
he added.

Gopal also said, “Borewells are drilled at Ilapura to address the drinking water woes. While the request for a water tank will be reconsidered”.

Substandard work
On the complaint of substandard compound works at B Seehalli, T Narsipur tahsildar said he was seized of the matter and the report has been sent to the department concerned.

Gopal said the panchayat development officer had to be transferred to ensure smooth and fair departmental enquiry. If he is found guilty with relevant documents, action would be initiated against him, he added.

The deputy commissioner asked Devaraj to meet her with relevant documents for his complaint against the delay in issuing compensation to the land acquired from him.
She also clarified that the civil court has issued an order stalling layout works on a government land.

The works have been stopped for now, Shikha said.
