Meal with a view

Gastronomical ride

With the glorious weather that Bengaluru generously bestows upon us, it’s natural to look at your buddy and say ‘let’s go for a long ride/drive’. When that idea is locked in, head out to the NH7 highway — the road towards Nandi Hills — as it’s bound to make the ride a delicious one.

Nestled below the Jain Temple and strategically located close to Nandi Hills, ‘Indian Paratha Company’ (IPC) is a vegetarian’s paradise, even if you are not one. Run by a well-travelled couple, Nirmal and Gunjan Sandhu, it promises to serve fresh and sumptuous food to guests, devoid of any artificial colours and preservatives.
The wooden-textured, hut-shaped restaurant is a sure catch, not only for the cottage-styled look, but also for being a one-stop destination for ‘paratha’ lovers. Popular for its pizza-topped parathas and ‘lassi’, IPC is a great place for motorists to stop by for a hot all-day meal.

Avinash Bhat, a bike-enthusiast, says, “We are a gang of 15 to 18 who love to go on long rides. We make it a point to go to IPC at least once a month and enjoy the food there. Waking up in the morning and riding is sometimes a task; but we love their stuffed parathas (so much) that we’re willing to compromise. It’s also the shortest possible getaway from the City. I can enjoy the view and relax my mind.” What makes this another hotspot is that one can always drop by on their way to the International Airport and spend some time over free WiFi, hot ‘chai’ and yummy ‘parathas’, before take off. It’s not just limited to travellers — Anita Philip, a resident of Devanahalli, adds, “We love going to Nandi Hills in the evening. On our way back home, we head over to IPC and have an early dinner. The ‘paratha’ and ‘lassi’ is not our staple food, being South Indian, but the ‘mutter paneer paratha’ and ‘lassi’ are to die for. It’s a bonus for people living nearby to enjoy a great meal in a quaint little place.” The service at IPC is warm and the menu is self explanatory — the basic ‘parathas’ with different stuffing, like ‘aloo’, ‘gobi’ and soya ‘kheema’, ‘Parathzza’, which has flavours of a pizza blended with ‘Dum ki Gobhi’, ‘Paneer Tikka’ and ‘Mushroom Corn’, and the ‘Q’Paratha’ like ‘Tandoori Paneer Masala’ and ‘Mutter Paneer’. To wash it down, the restaurant offers a gloriously thick and soul-filling ‘lassi’ and ‘garma garam chai’. “We were on our way to Hyderabad and spotted this gem tucked miles outside the City. The food stays true to the name; the ‘parathas’ are amazing. The best part is that the normal ‘parathas’ don’t really require a curry to go with it,” says Nitya Sriram.

Overlooking the beautiful view on the outskirts of Bengaluru, the restaurant is an ideal place for bikers, couples, families and passers-by to unwind and enjoy a lip-smacking ‘stuffed’ meal.

IPC is located at 1/2, Guttahalli, Kasaba Hobli, Devanahalli. For details, call 49653566.
