Farmers stage stir on R-Day

Addressing the protest staged at Mahatma Gandhi circle in the city on Republic Day he said that no project have ever been implemented against the wish of the people and questioned the government as to on what basis they have set their foot to start the project, which needs huge quantity of electricity when the entire state is reeling under power crisis.

JD(S) District President Dr H R Raju said that BJP promised the people of making the state an ‘model’ state if people vote them to power. Today the people have been disillusioned by the government. He said that farmers should wage a united war against the project.

Co-operative Marketing Federation President S L Dharmegowda said that BJP, which came to power in the name of the farmers is busy looting the state and the farmers. “Farmers should teach this government a lesson,” he said.

Congress leader B R Neelakantappa said that the protest is against the anti-people policies of the government and not against BJP MLAs. “State Government has conspired to implement the project by giving wrong information to the centre. The protest should be kept on till the government withdraws this unscientific project,” he said.

Bhadra Upper Canal Project Opposers’ Association Members Ravishankar, Subramanya, Dr Anjuman, Budansaab, Congress Leaders Gangadharappa, Karakuchi Lakshman, K V Papanna and others were present.
