Town Hall work to be over by November, assures Mayor

Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred has said work on Town Hall will be completed by November. The short term tender for various works have been invited.

Briefing reporters, on Friday, she said three technical bids have been received for installing acoustic panelling, stage curtain, sound and light system, fall ceiling and catwalk stage. The work will be taken up at a cost of Rs 98 lakh.

Two technical bids have been received for making seating arrangements at a coat of Rs 60 lakh.

The tender for the AC installation at a cost of Rs 48 lakh along with laying new cables at a cost of Rs 49 lakh have been opened.   The Mayor said foundation for seven road works will be laid by District-in-Charge Minister Ramanath Rai and Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake on July 27.

The 690 -metre stretch of Konchady to Kavoor road will be taken up at a cost of Rs two crore. The work to be taken up are development of Pacchanady main road at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore; Maladi-Court road (RS two crore), Ladyhill Circle to Koragajja Gudi road (1.90 crore), Durgamahal to Bokkapattana church (1.65 crore), Subhashnagara Junction to Mangaladevi road (Rs 4.65 crore) and Kadri main entrance arch to Kadri temple (Rs one crore).

Stating that the MCC will develop seven markets in its jurisdiction, she said the decision on development of central market was taken at a special meeting held on May 28.

The consultant has been asked to prepare a DPR for developing Central market on 3.61 acre land. The Kankanady market will be developed on 1.47 acre area. The Council of the City Corporation has decided develop Kadri market on 0.45 acre land.

A fullfledged Surathkal market will come up on 4.34 acre land. Similarlym Alake, Kavoor and Kulshekar-Kaikamba markets will be developed, said Jacintha.

FAR fund for footpaths

To a query on development of footpaths in the city limits, Deputy Commissioner (Development) of MCC N Shiva Shankar Swami said tender were invited for five to six times to take up the work on footpaths. However, as contractors failed to apply, it has been decided to take up the work using Premiere FAR fund. Accordingly, a proposal for 11 works at an estimated cost of Rs 22 crore has been prepared. The proposal will be placed before the council during the next council meeting. Here the works have been split into Rs 50 lakh each.

Earlier, the package for footpaths were above Rs 1 crore. There are hardly two to three conctractors who are qualified to apply for the tender.

By splitting the packages, it has been proposed to take up the work at the earliest.
To utilise the funds under premiere FAR, one need to take permission from the State government.
