Dr T C Anand Kumar

Dr T C Anand Kumar, the pioneer of the India’s first scientifically documented test tube baby, passed away in Bangalore on Tuesday.

He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. The last rites will be performed on Thursday.

Anand Kumar, a reproductive biologist of international repute, headed the team that produced the India’s first test tube baby at the ICMR’s Institute for Research in Reproduction in Mumbai in 1986.

He was graduated in Bangalore and secured his doctorate from the University of Jodhpur and then went to Birmingham, UK for higher studies.  He received many awards including Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award and the Sanjay Gandhi National Award.
