Last Updated 01 August 2015, 20:11 IST

In a case of attention diversion, two persons made away with Rs 3 lakh from a contractor’s car near Doddanekundi in HAL police station limits on Saturday.

According to the police, Rohith, a contractor and a resident of Yelahanka, went to a bank in Whitefield and drew Rs 3 lakh to pay the labourers. He kept the money in his car and asked his driver to head home.

On the way, one of the tyres punctured near Doddanekundi. The driver removed the tyre and took it away for repair. When Rohith was alone, a man approached him. He was told that a Rs 100 note had fallen near the car. Rohith left the car windows open and got down from the car to pick up the note, police said.

Soon, another person took the bag from the car and fled. Rohith did not realise that the bag was missing, till the driver returned and asked him about it, police said.

They informed the police, who visited the spot. The police are trying to obtain footage of CCTV cameras placed in nearby establishments.

A senior police officer said, “There is a gradual rise in attention diversion cases in the City. We have asked people not to fall prey to such tactics. Yet such incidents repeat. The public should not pick up notes or any other valuables fallen on the ground, especially when they have huge amounts of money in their possession.”
