The family donated the organs of 26-year-old youth Abhishek Yoga, after he was declared brain-dead. The organs were harvested late in the evening on Tuesday. Medical Superintendent of the St Johns Medical College Hospital, Dr Vijay Joseph said, “Abhishek was brought to us in a very critical condition. His responses were minimal and he was immediately put on ventilator. He had stopped responding since last 36 hours. Later the family consented to donate organs.”

Officials from the Zonal Co-ordination Committee said in a late night procedure, the donor’s liver, kidneys, heart valves and cornea would be harvested. His liver would be sent to Columbia Asia, heart valves to Narayana Health and corneas to Lions Eye Bank.

Abhishek had met with an accident on July 30 and had suffered serious head injury after he had skidded from his bike. He was then rushed to St Johns Medical College Hospital according to Dr Vijay Joseph.
