Shop raided, hawala cash confiscated

3 held for illegal money transfer; Rs 26.16L recovered

The Central Crime Branch police on Thursday raided a shop, Savitha Creations, at Shivananda building in Mamulpet and arrested three men for transferring money illegally to businessmen across the country.

The police recovered Rs 26.16 lakh in cash, four cellphones and a counting machine from the trio identified as Mukesh, 38, a resident of Balepet; Manjunath, 30, of Sarakki and Prathap, 27, a resident of RT Street. They had stacked the money illegally and had not paid taxes and were planning to ferry and deliver the money to businessmen in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat and West Bengal through the hawala channel, said the police.

The suspects told the police that a few businessmen in Bengaluru had given them money to be delivered to businessmen in some cities across the country. They charged between Rs 200 and Rs 300 as commission to deliver Rs one lakh through the hawala channel. The trio has been booked under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

Ayurvedic doc kills self

An Ayurvedic doctor committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in Srirampura police limits on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Naveen, 56, a resident of Nagappa Block.

According to the police, Naveen had dinner with his wife, son and daughter and went to bed. The family members grew suspicious as he did not come out of the room on Friday morning. They broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling.

The police are yet to ascertain the reason for Naveen taking the extreme step.
