Infosys co-founder and former chief executive S.D. Shibulal joined as chairman of The Tamara, a hospitality venture promoted by his daughter Shruti, the company said on Tuesday.

"Shibulal will ensure highest standards of corporate governance and excellence by bringing to our board a wealth of previous experiences," the city-based holiday resorts firm said in a statement here on Tuesday.

Shibulal quit Infosys on July 31, 2014 after over three decades of association with the global software major and the IT industry.

Tamara operates a luxury resort at Coorg in Kodagu district of Karnataka, about 270km from here, another resort Palma Laguna at Alleppey in Kerala and Lilac in Bengaluru.

The venture also appointed Sudha Gopalakrishnan, wife of another Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalarishnan, as one of its directors.

Sudha, a trustee of Pratisha Trust, set up with Gopalakrishnan, has varied interests spanning education, arts, organic farming and philanthropy.

"We are planning to build similar projects at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu," Tamara chief executive N. Senthil Kumar said on the occasion.

The leisure firm also appointed a domain consultant Anand Kasturi as an independent director.

"As a chief executive of his own firm Anand Kasturi Consulting, Kasturi works with Indian and overseas organisations in services management," the statement added. The company plans to acquire a hotel property in the German-speaking part of Western Europe soon.
