Indian American welcome Obama State of the Union Address

Representing the influential Indian American doctors community, Vinod Shah, president of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) said, "The President was both focused and articulate, and we are very pleased that he is continuing his efforts to pass meaningful health care reform."

We believe addressing a permanent fix to the Medicare sustainable growth rate and increasing medical residency slots nationally should be at the forefront of reform efforts, said Shah who was present in the visitor’s gallery of the US Congress to listen to the State of the Union Address.

"At the same time, the President spoke of the very tough economic times our nation is experiencing and the challenges facing American families on a daily basis.
I believe it is vitally important that we work together in bipartisan fashion to successfully tackle these problems, Shah said.

"We need to put aside our political differences and do what’s best for our nation.
We fully stand behind the President and his efforts to bring America back onto a path of prosperity and look forward to working with him and his team to make America strong once again," he said.
