Last Updated 14 August 2015, 20:04 IST

As many as 20 candidates who have undergone a formal training in civic leadership are in the fray for BBMP polls this time. These contestants are the alumni of Bangalore Political Action Committee’s B CLIP programme.

The B PAC Civic Leadership Incubator Program (B CLIP) aims to build a group of people capable of being civic leaders by honing their skills in ward-level management and administration. The candidates of this nine-month programme have been trained in public policy analysis, municipal administration, ward mapping, understanding of ward level issues etc, according to B PAC members. The candidates also undergo practical training through community projects.

Of the 20 candidates, 10 are contesting as Independents, five on Loksatta Party ticket, three are from BJP and one each are in the fray on Congress and JD(S) tickets.

Addressing mediapersons here on Friday, B PAC president Kiran Mazumdar Shaw opined that BBMP had the image of a corrupt entity and the residents of the city needed to rid the Palike of that image.
