Many crorepati candidates in the fray for Palike elections

A random check of the assets and liabilities declared by candidates in the fray for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike poll reveals that many, cutting across party lines, are worth in crores of rupees.

Vanishree Vishwanath of the BJP, contesting her first BBMP polls, has 10 plots of agricultural land not worth less than Rs 3.89 crore in Hesaraghatta and Yelahanka area.
Wife of Yelahanka BJP MLA S R Vishwanath, Vanishree is contesting from the Chowdeshwari ward. Her declaration filed along with her nomination papers states that she owns a house in Buvaneshwarinagara in Dasarahalli worth Rs 3.12 crore. She has several bank accounts with savings totalling Rs 50 lakh. Vanishree has declared that gold worth 1.53 crore and silver worth Rs 2.6 lakh were gifted to her at the time of her marriage by her parents and in-laws. She is also the owner of two tractors and one Toyota Fortuner worth Rs 19 lakh.

Vishwanath is richer than his wife with his property list running to three pages.
Congress candidate B N Nitesh Purushotham, a MBA  graduate, is 30 years old. Son of sitting Congress MLA M T B Nagaraj (Hoskote assembly constituency), Nitesh, who is contesting from the Garudacharpalya ward, is again worth in crores.

According to his declaration Nitesh has Rs 4.49 lakh cash in hand, bank balance of  Rs 12.49 lakh and shares worth Rs 76.79 lakh.

He possesses gold jewellery worth Rs 57 lakh, diamonds worth Rs 36 lakh and silverware worth Rs 6.27 lakh. There is more to his wealth statistics.

Nitesh has 63 acres agricultural land registered in his name, valued at Rs 14 crore. He is constructing a house on a 2.2-acre plot in Hoodi at a cost of Rs five crore.

JD(S) candidate from Vrushabhavathinagar S P Hemalatha, wife of  Mahalakshmi Layout JD (S) MLA K Gopalaiah, netted Rs 34 lakh last fiscal from her company Channigaraya Crushers.

Jewellery worth Rs 45L
Hemalatha has jewellery worth Rs 45 lakh and has taken insurance policies worth Rs 25 lakh. She owns agricultural lands worth Rs 1.5 crore in Kunigal and Bengaluru (north) taluk. Former deputy mayor S Harish (BJP), who is contesting from Nagapura ward, has a bank balance close to Rs nine lakh and has two houses in prime localities - Basavangudi valued at Rs 80 lakh and Rajajinagar valued at Rs 1.5 crore.

Former mayor N Shanthakumari (BJP) is contesting from the Maruthi Mandira ward in Govindarajnagar assembly segment. She has a bank balance of Rs 55,788, insurance policies worth Rs 7.5 lakh, gold jewellery worth Rs 6.43 lakh. Shanthakumari owns 30x40 site in Yeshwanthpur worth Rs 10.8 lakh and another plot measuring 5,489 sq ft in ITI Layout, Malathahalli worth Rs 1.36 crore. Shanthakumari’s husband H Ravi Kumar has got six properties in Narasappa Layout. According to the declaration, three of the properties were gifted to him and three others were secured following property division.
