Monsoon gathers momentum in State

Moderate to heavy rain lashes several districts

Monsoon gained momentum after a gap of few days in various parts of the State on Friday.

Hubballi City received heavy rainfall on Friday evening. The showers brought respite to the people as it had rained after a good gap.

The rainfall, which lasted for more than 15 minutes, gave a relief from the heat and dust. Since showers caught the people unaware, most of the schoolchildren and working people had to run for cover.

After a long gap, showers lashed parts of Belagavi City on Friday. The showers lasted upto half an hour, taking the people by surprise.

Monsoon was active in Uttara Kannada district after a brief lull. Most of the areas in the coastal and the Malnad belt received moderate rainfall.

Honnavar, Kumta, Ankola and Karwar in the coastal region, Sirsi, Siddapur and Yellapur in the Malnad region, received moderate rainfall. Dank weather prevailed in Haliyal, Mundagod and Dandeli in the semi-arid region.

Soaring mercury levels on Friday morning turned into a cloudy weather by evening, accompanied with rain and thunderstorm in Haveri City. Clouds hovered over various part of Haveri taluk, resulting into sporadic rainfall in several areas.

Several places in Raichur district, including the city, received good rainfall on Thursday, as well as Friday. Happy with the showers, farmers have begun sowing of Rabi crops in the fields. The Government had declared all the five taluks in the district as drought-hit. The district had received less than 50 per cent of the monsoon showers.

Raichur, Gillesugur, Yeragera, Chandrabanda, Kalmala, Yeramaras, Gajaral, Deodurga, Arakera, Jalahalli, Galaga, Gabbur, Manvi, Kurdi, Rajalabanda, Pamana Kallur, Kallur, Kavital, Kurukunda, Mallata, Halapur, Lingasugur, Mudugal, Maski and Hatti have all received good rainfall.

After a brief lull, intermittent rains lashed the malnad region in Shivamogga district on Friday.

Hosanagar, Thirthahalli, Bhadravathi, Sagar, some parts of Shivamogga and Sorab received intermittent rain. Heavy rain accompanied by lightning lashed Hosanagar and Thirthahalli in the noon. Later, it rained towards the evening. Moderate to heavy rainfall lashed Bhadravathi. Water-level in Linganamakki dam stood at 1786.95 feet against the maximum level of 1819 feet. The inflow of water was 6519.00 cusecs and the outflow was 8608.00 cusecs. Water level in Bhadra dam was at 169.23 feet against the maximum level of 186 feet. The inflow of water was 2,928 cusecs and the outflow was 3,183 cusecs.
