The BJP candidate who quit her job as a police constable to contest the BBMP polls, has emerged victorious.

JM Savitha, a BA graduate from Vasavi College, contested from Srinagar (ward number 156) in the Basavanagudi Assembly constituency on the BJP ticket.

She won the election by more than 6,800 votes- a margin of 399 votes over JD(S) candidate Nagarthna Thimme Gowda. Incidentally, Savitha’s father C Mayanna had lost to Nagarthna’s husband Thimme Gowda by 88 votes from the same ward in the 2010 BBMP elections.

She told Deccan Herald:  “It is a good feeling to win.  I owe this victory to the residents of Srinagar, my family and colleagues. As soon as the results were declared, I personally went around the ward and thanked people for their support.”

When asked about her future plans, she said, “Now the real test begins. I want to carry out major developmental works in Srinagar. People are free to approach me anytime and I will do my best to address their issues,” added Savitha.

Savitha  served as a constable for 12 years. She was posted at the Basavanagudi women’s police station from 2003 to 2006 and at the Public Relations Office at the State Police headquarters from 2006 to 2015.

Her husband Chandrashekar is a manager at a private company and her father C Mayanna has been a BJP worker for more than 20 years.
