Sanjeev Khanna, who was arrested on Wednesday, has told investigators that Sheena was not his daughter but one Indrani had from an earlier relationship.

According to sources in Kolkata Police, a team from Khar police station in Mumbai reached the city on Wednesday and took Khanna into custody for interrogation in Bora’s murder.

They had information that Sheena was the daughter of Indrani and Sanjeev. Confirming the arrest, a senior officer said that Khanna, currently under interrogation at an undisclosed location, will be produced before a metropolitan magistrate for transit remand so that he can be taken to Mumbai. “He’s likely to be charged as a co-accused in the case,” the officer said.

The officer said that Sanjeev was reported to have told the police that Sheena was not his daughter but one Indrani had from an earlier marriage.

Sanjeev said during interrogation that in the 1990s, Indrani was involved with the scion of an elite family from north Kolkata that owned a number of tea gardens in Darjeeling.

“Sanjeev believes Sheena could have been a daughter out of wedlock Indrani had while having the affair with this man,” a top cop said.

Khanna, who has interests in a number of businesses, was involved with the running of a heritage property in Bengal that was restored and converted into a luxury weekend getaway near Kolkata. His business partner, who wants to remain unnamed, said that sometime back in 2007-8 he has seen Indrani travel between Kolkata and Mumbai accompanied by a teenage girl.
