No takers for Molecular Biology course at Bangalore University

Even after Bangalore University conducted counselling for admissions to postgraduate courses, some of the departments have invited for subsequent applications in order to fill in the seats that have no takers.

In fact, after the PG counselling, the university already conducted another round of counselling by inviting applications to courses in departments that were able to fill only few seats. This second round of admissions were conducted on August 19, in the respective post graduate departments. In spite of that, some seats have remained vacant in some departments and affiliated colleges of the university.

One course that has hardly seen admissions is the Molecular Biology course. According to the Ramachandra Swamy, Dean, Faculty of Science, this subject has seen not more than 20 per cent admissions. The admission for this course has been in single digit. Other science courses, even in the worse case have secured at least 70 to 80 percent admissions, he observed. To fill these seats, the university has now called for applications again.

The deadline for sending in the applications is August 31 and the counselling will be conducted on September 2 at the Department of Botany, Jnanabharathi campus. In the Arts courses however, all the seats in the university departments are full but several seats in the affiliated colleges have found no takers, said Jagadish, Dean of Arts, BU. “This is either because these colleges are away from the City limits or because their fee is not affordable for students. On the contrary, the university departments offer the same courses for far lower fees,” he said.

Meanwhile, the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) too has called for applications for three vacant seats in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and four seats in BArch. College principal Venugopal said the State government had asked the college principals to fill the remaining seats after competition of the CET counselling process. These seats would be allotted as per CET ranking itself, the principal added.

Candidates with valid CET 2015 ranks those who had not secured admission under CET quota in any other Engineering college are eligible to apply. Applications will be available at the college and has to be submitted on or before 5 pm  on August 28. Counselling will be conducted on August 29.
