Independents keep parties guessing

Last Updated 30 August 2015, 21:04 IST

Some of the independent corporators, who are away in Kerala, have indicated that they would join the Congress to ensure that party gets a majority in the BBMP Council and win the mayoral elections.

Kempapura Agrahara ward corporator M Gayathri’s husband M Ganesh on Sunday told Deccan Herald over phone that his wife will be joining the Congress.

“Earlier, she (Gayathri) was in BJP but she was denied the ticket by that party. Hence, she contested as an independent candidate. The BJP has backstabbed her and therefore she will join the Congress. The decision was taken prior to the Kerala trip itself.”

Ganesh, however, said it was just a leisure trip and there have been no meetings taking place with the political bigwigs.

Lakshminarayana, the corporator from Domlur ward, said that he is supporting the Congress for the development of his ward. He also contested as an independent after the BJP denied him the ticket.

It looks like the Kerala trip of independents would be extended to few more days.
Ramesh, corporator from Marathahalli ward, said that he will be returning from Kerala after four to five days. He, however, was unwilling to disclose his future move. There are a total of seven independent corporators and one from the SDPI. Of these, Mamatha Saravana, corporator from Ulsoor ward, has already joined the BJP.

Muzjahid Pasha of Social Democratic Party of India ( SDPI) said that he had not gone to Kerala and was very much in the City. Pasha said he will take a call on which party to join based on suggestions made by the SDPI leaders.
