Situated in one of the posh area of Delhi, the South African restaurant Barcelos is an option if you want a casual dining experience. Known for its peri-peri flavour and flame-grilled delicacies, Barcelos offers a bright and quite environment to all.

The restaurant got much hyped when it introduced the dramatic black burger in India. Recently, Barcelos also introduced the red and white burger which seemed to gain popularity as soon as it was launched. The restaurant is presently celebrating the ‘Salads and Sangria”‘festival that introduces maximum 21 varieties of Sangria.

Metrolife headed to the place to explore their exquisite menu crafted to cater the Indian customer. However, a look at the menu can leave you little confused as there are a lot of Portuguese dishesin the menu.

To start with something from their ongoing Salad and Sangria festival, we ordered Cinnamon and Apple Sangria. The strong cinnamon essence of the sangria with the small apple cubes and a tinge of honey made our choice a perfect one. Among the salads, we made choice of Capris Salad. Tower of grilled haloumi, tomato and zucchini on a bed of grilled asparagus, aside with mix lettuce, served with pesto paste and sweet onion dressing was a refreshing experience.

Moving to the choice of appetisers, we selected Boneless Thighs with Onion and Pepper with the combination of mild peri. You can try it with any of the four sauces – tangy peri, mild peri, very peri and super peri. The juicy chicken thighs skewed with onion and pepper and served with peri mayo added to our appetite. In the menu, you can find Barcelos’ signature dishes. We tried Grilled Trout Fish which has an option to be served with one side or two and a choice of four sidelines – fries with dip coleslaw, wedges with dip grilled veg, mashed potatoes with sprout beans and spicy rice green salad. We chose one side with the sideline wedges with dip grilled veg. The luscious trout marinated and grilled with peri sauce of your choice is a must try for all the seafood lovers.

Molecular mixology is a new art of cocktail making by using scientific principles to experiment with ingredients to create new flavours, textures, shapes and forms of drinks. They are the visual delight when paired with food bites, its a sort of eat-and-drink cocktails. We ordered the Kiwi Kooler and the cool and refreshing taste of it made us fall in love with it.

From the Portuguese offerings, we tried the Chicken Espetada. A hanging dish skewed with chicken breast, onions and pepper with two regular sides will catch your eye with its inviting look. Add some mild peri sauce to it and relish the taste it offers.

Although our stomach had no space to allow any amount of food to it, yet we couldn’t
afford missing the Peri Peri Black Beauty listed in the menu which is labelled under the ‘World Healthiest Burgers’. A huge black-coloured burger was placed in front of us. We were quite curious how the quirky burger would taste. But from Metrolife’s verdict it was a heads-up.

So if you want to try some unique and delicious combination of South African and Portuguese cuisine, head over!
