BJP misleading people on Mahadayi, says Congress

Last Updated 18 September 2015, 21:08 IST

The Congress on Friday accused the BJP of “misleading” the people on farmers’ issues and water disputes in a bid to cover up the internal bickerings in the party.

The BJP is going to town blaming the State government for failing to resolve the Mahadavi water dispute with Goa. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi had refused to intervene when an all-party delegation met him recently on the issue, Congress legislators V S Ugrappa, Ashok Pattan and H M Revanna told reporters here.

Ugrappa said there were four to five groups in the BJP and each was trying to score a point over others by making political statements. He said former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa took out Raitha Chaitanya Yatra in his bid for one-upmanship in the party and not out of concern for farmers. Ugrappa took exception to BJP leader K S Eshwarappa making “derogatory remarks” against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and he must have lost his mental balance.

The Congress leaders also condemned the Centre’s move to discontinue postage stamps featuring former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
