For the first time in its history, the proceedings of the Madras High Court were beamed live when contempt of court proceedings against two Madurai-based Bar leaders were taken up in connection with the anti-helmet rally taken out by lawyers in that city last month.

The proceedings were beamed live on a 55cm LED television installed away from the court hall No.4 and barricades erected around it to prevent entry of lawyers. A camera was placed inside the court hall, court sources said.

Tamil news channels covered the live beaming of the proceedings.
Details of restrictions and security measures are being published in the court's cause list for the past three days.

Secretary of Madurai Bar Association A K Ramasamy and its president P Dharmaraj are facing contempt of court proceedings in connection with the anti-helmet ruling rally by lawyers in Madurai last month.

During the September 16 hearing a group of about 100 advocates, who came in three buses from Madurai, had created a ruckus in the corridors of a court hall here as suo motu contempt proceedings against the two leaders of Madurai Bar Association were heard in-camera.

Despite elaborate security, including CCTV cameras, made in anticipation of trouble, the alleged supporters of the two leaders had occupied the corridors of Court No.4 and shouted slogans after being barred from entering the hall where the matter was heard by a bench.
