Last Updated 04 October 2015, 19:10 IST

Media executive Indrani Mukerjea nee Bora, who is admitted in Sir J J Hospital at Byculla here, showed signs of improvement of Sunday.

Indrani is accused in the sensational murder of Sheena Bora. “She is out of danger now,” said Dr. T P Lahane, the Dean of Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Group of Hospitals.

She is still drowsy and responds to oral commands. We have given her water. She will be kept under observation for another 48 hours. Thereafter, she will be discharged after consultations with psychiatrist,” he told reporters.

On Friday, she was shifted from the women’s prison to the hospital in an unconscious state after an overdose of anti-depressant and anti-anxiety pills that she had possibly hoarded over a period of time.

On Saturday, she slipped into ‘deep sleep’ but from Sunday, her condition showed signs of improvement.

Meanwhile, senior Congressman and Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil demanded to know whether Indrani had attempted suicide or was it a bid to murder her.

“There are many unanswered questions… (Former police commissioner) Rakesh Maria’s sudden transfer though the accused were already arrested and the case sent to CBI… Now, Indrani’s present health condition raises suspicions,” Vikhe Patil said.

He wondered if this could happen to Indrani in judicial custody, there could be a risk to the life of Samir Gaikwad—an activist of the Hindu right-wing outfit Sanatan Sanstha arrested in connection with the murder of senior Communist leader Comrade Govind Pansare.
