To check increasing cyber crimes, an exclusive cyber crime police station has been set up at the Bengaluru police commissioner’s office on Infantry Road.

DG&IGP Om Prakash and adviser to the Home Minister, Kempaiah, inaugurated it on Monday.

Om Prakash said the confusion on jurisdictional issues about cyber crimes would be cleared soon. “I am aware there is confusion between the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) cyber crime police station and other law and order police stations on cases pertaining to offences on social networking websites and online lottery cheating.

The issue will be sorted out soon. Citizens can approach the cyber crime police station in cases of debit and credit card fraud up to Rs one lakh and online cheating up to Rs five lakh,” he said.

The police station will have jurisdiction over Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagar, Tumakuru, Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts. Exclusive cyber crime stations are functioning in Mysuru, Kalaburagi, Davangere, Hubballi-Dharwad and Mangaluru.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner N S Megharik said the respective Station House Officers would decide on transferring cyber crime cases already under investigation to the cyber crime station.

CID DGP Kishore Chandra, Central Range IGP Arun Chakravarty and CID IGP K V Sharat Chandra were present during the inauguration of the police station.
