Citizens who faced a myriad of hardships following heavy rains on Monday took to the social media to express their anguish at the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) poor civic infrastructure management.

While Meena A from Nagawara complained to BBMP Commissioner G Kumar Naik on Facebook about the flooded roads and open gutters, Raj Tulasi narrated how he, along with residents of Whitefield, is facing problems due to the bad condition of the roads which have turned worse with recent rains. Shivraj, another citizen, said the road along the back gate of Bagmane Tech Park in C V Raman Nagar was completely flooded, making it unmotorable.

The aftermath of Monday’s rainfall led to waterlogging in several places with many structures being inundated. The parking facility at the Karnataka State Cooperative Urban Banks’ Federation Limited office on KH Road was flooded and many cars were submerged. Similarly, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium off MG Road was filled with up to four feet of rainwater on Tuesday morning. Lalbagh lake and Bagmane lake were breached with water flowing onto the streets.

Waterlogging was also reported at Rhenius Street, RBANMS grounds, Indiranagar and Tannery Road. On Hayes Road, an overflowing manhole led to chaotic traffic for a while. Under the Okalipuram flyover, police were seen cleaning the shoulder drains filled with garbage as the water on the road was not draining easily.

Meanwhile, Mayor B N Manjuntha Reddy said the BBMP had earlier identified 100 areas that were prone to danger during rains and that the number had reduced to 26. He visited Shanthinagar and other areas affected by rain and instructed the BBMP joint commissioners to attend to the rain-related complaints in their respective zones at the earliest.

While the BBMP received no major complaints about uprooted trees and clogged drains, the control room staff said they received one complaint from a citizen reporting the sinking of a compound wall on Kaggadasapura main road.
