While one event is a photo exhibition that tries to capture the essence of the collaboration between India and Germany, the other is an education fair to create awareness about various opportunities for higher education in Germany.

The ‘DWIH (The German House for Research and Innovation): Art meets Science’ exhibition was inaugurated by celebrated German photographer, Wolfgang Zurborn, in the presence of a number of dignitaries such as Jörn Rohde, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bengaluru and Dr H Honne Gowda, Managing Director,
Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS), here on Friday.

Marking the beginning of the event, Zurborn unveiled a few works from the photo exhibition themed ‘The Theatre of Real Life’ that showcases the works of a number of Indian photographers brought to life during the ‘Excellence on Tour!’ road shows in Gandhinagar and Kolkata that were held around two years ago. Zurborn has collected these works for the exhibition.

The rest of the photos will be showcased at Christ University, Hosur Road from November 21 to 29. “The photography exhibition displayed a cultural highlight combined with ample first-hand information on research and innovation in Germany. Through these photographs, the artists have tried to present a new perspective to everyday life,” said Zurborn.

Speaking about the Higher Education and Research Fair, Dr Alexander P Hansen, Chairman of the Board of DWIH, New Delhi, said, “A total of 11 institutions will be participating in the fair. Similar to India’s research institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research, even in Germany, institutions have their own arrangements and intricacies.

The fair is a good opportunity for students to know about various scholarships and other opportunities,” he said. In the same vein, Rohde talked about the importance of Indian students to Germany in light of the fact that Indians are the third largest student population in Germany.

“India likes rankings of institutions. In Germany, the quality levels of all institutions are always high and they come, if not in the top 100, but within the top-300 best institutions in the world,” he said.

The Higher Education and Research Fair will be held on Saturdayand Sunday.
