Delhi reach 60/1 in reply to Karnataka's mammoth 542

Defending champions Karnataka maintained their strong grip over Delhi in a group A Ranji Trophy encounter as they piled up a mammoth first innings score of 542, here today.

At stumps on the second day, Delhi reached 60 for one with skipper Gautam Gambhir holding fort on 33, having Dhruv Shorey (4 batting) for company. Gambhir has played 82 balls and hit three boundaries in the process.

The only Delhi wicket to fall in 29 overs was Unmukt Chand (22), who edged one off Sreenath Aravind to CM Gautham behind the stumps.

Earlier, Karnataka started the day at 358 for three and added another 184 runs to their total score before they were all out in 149 overs.

The notable scorer on the second day for Karnataka was Manish Pandey, who stroked his way to 81 off 141 balls with 13 boundaries. The other useful contribution came from skipper R Vinay Kumar, who hit a quickfire 50 off 60 balls with nine boundaries.

Shreyas Gopal (27) and Gautham (37) started well but got out after getting set.

For Delhi, left-arm seamer Pradeep Sangwan bowled 35 overs taking 3/102 in the process. The best figures were recorded by seamer Navdeep Saini (3/85 in 32 overs).

Another left-armer Pawan Suyal (2/123 in 31 overs) was a touch expensive than the other two.

The maximum overs were sent down by left-arm spinner Manan Sharma, who bowled 41 overs, to take two wickets giving away 147 runs in the process.
