* The 558 runs amassed by South Africa is their second highest total against India and highest in India. The 563 runs scored at Bloemfontein in 2001 is still their highest.

* Hashim Amla who made his debut against India at Kolkata in 2004 and playing in his 42nd Test scored his maiden double century -- unbeaten 253.  His previous highest score was an unbeaten 176 against New Zealand at Johannesburg in 2007.

* Amla’s 253 is the fourth highest score against India in India.  The other three knocks are – 275 (Mahela Jayawardene, SL at Ahmedabad, 2009), 265 (Younis Khan, Pak at Bangalore, 2005), 256 (Rohan Kanhai, WI at Kolkata in 1958).

* Amla also became the highest run scorer in an innings for South Africa against India. AB de Villiers’s unbeaten 217 at Ahmedabad in 2008 was the previous best.

* During his knock Amla completed 3000 runs in Test cricket.

* The 340 runs partnership for the third wicket between Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla is the highest for any wicket between the two countries.  The 268-run alliance for the second wicket between Sehwag and Dravid at Chennai in 2008 was the earlier highest.
