The Congress’s factional feud took ugly turn in Tamil Nadu after the controversial TN Congress Committee (TNCC) president E V K S Elangovan was accused of  harassing party woman MLA.

State Mahila Congress president and Vilavancode legislator Vijayadharani, in her complaint to the party high command in Delhi, alleged that Elangovan used abusive words and also insulted by her caste name.

“Elangovan did not take action against the cadres, who tore former prime minister Indira Gandhi’s picture. Instead he used filthy and abusive language against me. He also asked to get out of the party”, the Congress MLA said.

“This is third time he (Elangovan) is abusing me”, she said adding “harassing women has become a common routine for him”. Stating that Elangovan’s continuation will hurt the party in the coming Assembly polls, Vijayadharani also asked the high command to take appropriate decision immediately.

Vijayadharani supporters also filed a similar complaint with the Tamil Nadu Police, who registered a case against TNCC president under various IPC section including assault, abuse and outraging the modesty of woman.

This is not the first time that Elangovan is facing charges by his party senior leader after taking over TNCC president in November 2014,

A few weeks back, former Union minister P Chidambaram, K V Thangkabalu and former state party president M Krishnaswamy urged All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief Sonia Gandhi to remove Elangovan for his alleged lack of coordination with the functionaries.
