The Rajya Sabha was adjourned thrice on Wednesday because of agitated Congress members who objected to the Leader of the House Arun Jaitley and Energy Minister Piyush Goyal’s comments on Congress leader Kumari Selja’s personal experience in Gujarat’s Dwarka temple.

On Tuesday, Selja triggered a controversy when she said in the House that she was asked about her caste when she visited a temple in Dwarka in Gujarat. Jaitley took up the issue in the Zero Hour. He said the UPA minister had stated "complimentary words" during her visit to the Dwarka temple in February 2013.  Jaitley read out her comments from the temple’s visitor’s book.

To this, Selja said she was not referring to the main Dwarka temple, but Bet Dwarka. It is an inhabited island 3 km off the coast of Okha in Gujarat.

“Please don’t try to mislead the House. That day, I had made it very clear that it was Bet Dwarka and not the main Dwarka (temple). Please don’t do this,” she said. Selja asserted she was happy visiting the main temple where she was treated well and had a very good darshan.
