The heavy rain and floods in Chennai have impacted the movement of people and goods and services from Bengaluru as people put off travelling to the deluged metro.

A good number of schedules of government and private buses kept off the roads to Chennai with no entry to Chennai city due to the heavy water logging.

Even several trains were cancelled and rescheduled, while no flight took off to Chennai on Wednesday.

The city was agog with reports that people were scared and hesitant to travel to Chennai as there was no way of reaching the inner areas of Chennai.

People put off travel plans with an official advisory  from the State authorities asking people not to travel to Chennai as it would hamper rescue efforts for the affected people.

Private bus representatives reported that a good number of their services were cancelled or rescheduled. Private operators were seen telling passengers that they would not be able to ferry them into the mainstream areas of the metro.

With buses in Chennai too parked at bus stands and not heading out, there was just no chance for travellers to reach their destinations in Chennai.

KSRTC reported that it was clubbing schedules because people were just not coming. “A bus leaving at 10 pm and another leaving at 10.30 pm were clubbed so that there is no loss to KSRTC and also because passengers are very few.

Over the last one month, because of rain, KSRTC has suffered loss of Rs 30-35 lakh with people not travelling to Chennai in the face of the disaster in the coastal city,” a spokeserson of the corporation said. Private bus operators too reported a similar experience.”
