BJP leader S Suresh Kumar on Tuesday accused the BDA of functioning like a real estate company and taking site aspirants for a ride.

The BDA has been collecting huge sums of money from applicants for site allotment under the proposed Kempe Gowda Layout project. Registration fee and initial deposit fixed by the authority are exorbitant.

For instance, a person seeking a 30x40 sq ft site has to pay Rs 2,000 as registration fee and Rs 2.3 lakh as initial deposit. Over a lakh people have applied for 5,000 sites of different dimensions to be formed at the layout, he said addressing the media.

But the BDA has not clearly stated as to when the layout will be formed and when the sites will be allotted. Moreover, the civic agency does not pay interest on the initial money deposited with it.

The site aspirants are being treated worse than by real estate agencies, he said. He added that he has written to the Bengaluru Development Minister K J George, urging for transparency in the allotment process.

This apart, the BJP leader said PWD Minister H C Mahadevappa and Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake have recommended to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to appoint RTI activist Mohan Berappa Maligera as the Information Commissioner in the State.

The activist had provided information against Upalokayukta Justice Subhash Adi to the ruling Congress, which moved a motion in the Assembly seeking his removal. The ruling party is now rewarding him, he added.

“The government’s move clearly shows how the RTI activist is linked to the Congress party and the government. It also shows that this government can stoop to any level to target someone,” he stated.
