When style is everything

After 20 years in the fashion industry, designer Pria Kataaria Puri has now forayed into the small screen and is hosting the chat show Born Stylish which is aired on Colors Infinity

The half-an-hour show throws light on the style quotient of celebrities. ‘Metrolife’ spoke to the 41-year-old who talked  about the venture, her life and
the journey.

Tell us more about the show.
Everyone is born stylish but a only select few inspire the world around by their style, panache and fashion presence. This is an all new celebrity chat show with Indian and international names like Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Anil Kapoor and Jean Paul Gautier, which throws light on interesting style journeys of icons in a unique must-watch format.

The focus is to highlight the style quotient of these personalities that embody a seductive concoction of talent, drive, and trend setting choices. The show attempts to map their artistic journey by digging deep inspiration and understanding, along with their evolving fashion choices that have led to a trail blazing career and revolutionary style-statement.

What is your fashion statement and how did you get into this field?
For me, style is more important than fashion. Fashion for me is a toll to enhance a person’s style, it is something that will help me become more stylish and gives me more choices. I had a lot of exposure to fashion and luxurious lifestyle provided by my parents at a very young age. With that I understood what luxury is and then designing came naturally to me.

Has the fashion industry evolved in India?
Exposure to fashion is there in India, but there is a huge gap between the fashion industry and the masses. We have a large middle class population who think that designer clothes are only for the riches. Fashion has not evolved as much as it should have but in general, Indians are very fashionable.

Are there any similarities between the Indian and international fashion scene?
Fashion has one language, no matter where in the world you are. However, I have noticed that trends come really very quick abroad and people accept them quickly. But in India, this happens late because people are not very experimental here.
