Youth stops Modi's convoy for 20 seconds

A youth stopped Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy for 20 seconds on the middle of the road, in Mysuru on Saturday.

The incident happened at Kautilya Circle near Crawford Hall at 7:35 pm.

Modi was heading towards Lalitha Mahal Hotel, after attending centenary celebration of Sri Shivaratri Rajendra Swami of Suttur Mutt at Maharaja’s College grounds. When the BMW car by which Modi was travelling, arrived near Kautilya Circle, a youth, all of a sudden, came in front of the vehicle stopping it for 20 seconds. The Special Protection Group (SPG), sent the boy aside and cleared the way.

DG&IGP Om Prakash told Deccan Herald: “There was no security breach...The incident has been blown out of proportion. The intruder was no way near the convoy. He shouted the prime minister’s name and started running towards his car. The SPG personnel detained him and handed him over to the police.”

Mysuru Police Commissioner B Dayananda has obtained the CCTV footage and is looking into whether there was any security breach, he said.

Preliminary probe revealed that the youth was not carrying any weapon. “He is an engineering graduate and a fan of PM Modi. He was apparently overjoyed on seeing the prime minister and shouted his name while trying to run towards his car. We are questioning him and analysing the incident,” said Dayananda.
