Girl dies in 'suicide pact' with beau, kin allege murder

A 14-year-old girl and her boyfriend are suspected to have consumed rat poison. The girl died, but the boy survived.

The incident took place at Down Bazaar in Yelahanka Old Town on Saturday.

According to the police, the deceased was a class 9 student and a native of Andhra Pradesh. She was in relationship for a long time with Kishore, 22, a vegetable vendor and her neighbour.

The couple had eloped a couple of times earlier, as the girl’s parents were against the relationship. Both were brought back after being convinced.

Preliminary investigation revealed that on December 14, 2015, the girl was sent to her relatives’ house at Madanapalli in Andhra Pradesh. But she went missing the next day. Her parents found that she was with Kishore at his relative’s house in Mandya, and managed to get her back home. On Thursday, the girl and Kishore managed to meet. He took her to his house and both of them consumed rat poison.

When Kishore’s family members noticed both of them lying on the floor, they rushed them to hospital where the girl was declared brought dead, while Kishore was subjected to treatment. He is now said to be out of danger, the police said.

“The girl’s parents alleged that Kishore had murdered her and pretended to have consumed poison. They also claimed that the young couple got married in a temple at Chikkajala on Thursday and that they had opposed it. Kishore has been detained and we are investigating whether it was a murder or suicide,” a senior police officer said.
