Human trafficking: HC wants rehab plan

Last Updated 13 January 2016, 20:54 IST

The High Court on Wednesday directed to State government to come up with a ‘vision plan’ to rehabilitate the victims of human trafficking.

While hearing a petition filed by an 18-year-old girl from Jharkhand, seeking action against people who trafficked her to Bengaluru, Justice Ashok B Hinchigeri directed the State government to submit the vision plan in the next hearing on Feb 3.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Sandeep Patil was present before the court sought clarity on court’s instructions with regard to formulating guidelines for victims of human trafficking.  The bench observed that the State government must ensure rehabilitation for the victims of human trafficking.

The court said that though it was not possible to stop human trafficking completely, the government should come up with rehabilitation plans for the victims. “Victims of human trafficking can be mine or your daughters and this is a very sensitive matter and must dealt carefully,” the bench observed.
