Two helmetless pillion riders killed in accidents

Two people, including a 9-year-old boy who was riding pillion without a helmet, were killed in separate road accidents in the City since Monday night.

In the first incident, Bhavin, a third standard student at a private school, who was riding pillion without wearing a helmet with his father, died on the spot after the bike rammed into a wall on the side of the road on ITC flyover under Pulakeshi Nagar traffic police limits. He was residing along with his father Rudraiah and mother Beula Jhansi in Ejipura.

At around 3.30 pm, Bhavin had gone to his grandmother's house on Hutchins Road along with his father. When they were returning home, his father Rudraiah, who was riding the bike, lost control over the vehicle when they were descending the flyover.

They were rushed to a nearby private hospital where Bhavin was declared brought dead and Rudraiah was treated for injuries. Rudraiah was wearing a helmet and escaped with minor injuries while Bhavin was not wearing a helmet. Rudraiah was booked for rash and negligent driving, added the police.

In another incident, a homemaker was killed after she fell off from the bike she was riding pillion on, near Hegade Nagar Main Road. Parveen Taj, 55, a resident of Nagawara, was riding pillion without a helmet with her son-in-law Ajmal Pasha on a bike.

She slipped off the bike, fell down and suffered head injuries. Pasha, took her to a nearby hospital but she was declared brought dead. Cases have been registered.

Labourer dies

A 41-year-old labourer, who was riding triple with two children, died after he rammed into a tempo traveller near Hessaraghatta Main Road on Monday night.According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Anand Kumar, a resident of Hessaraghatta Main Road.

The incident occurred at around 8.30 pm, when, he along with his neighbour's children Jaffar and Prahalad, were on their way to a hotel to eat dinner. Kumar tried to overtake a tempo traveller and rammed into the vehicle.

He succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital and the two children escaped without any injuries. The police have arrested the driver of the tempo traveller Udaya and have also seized the vehicle, added the police.
