The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), which has roped in a private organisation to execute its ambitious public bicycle sharing (PBS) initiative, has invited citizens to participate in the selection of a brand name and tag line.

In a press release issued here on Saturday, MCC Commissioner C G Betsurmath has stated that the PBS is estimated to cost Rs 20 crore and it is being implemented as a pilot project for the first time in India, under the Global Environment Facility (GEF) of the World Bank.

450 bicycles
“The PBS will complement the reputation of Mysuru, which has secured the heritage city tag and also the cleanest city tag. The PBS will have 450 bicycles and 52 docking stations. Both citizens and tourists can avail the facility, once it is launched. The cycles can be availed on rent and can be docked in any of the stations after use. PBS will also help reduce air pollution and sound pollution and will also help in decongesting roads. Citizens can also stay health by cycling. If this succeeds, other cities will emulate the experiment,” he said.

Citizens can compete in suggesting a brand name and a tag line for the initiative. The entries can be sent to 80508 09988 by SMS or via WhatsApp or by email to greenwheelride@gmail.com before February 3. Winners stand to win prizes worth a total of Rs 10,000.
