National-level corporate law competitions from today

With an aim to create opportunities for learning jurisprudence and emerging trends in Corporate Law besides developing cutting edge skills in research, writing and advocacy, JSS Law College (JSSLC), Mysuru and Surana and Surana International Attorneys, Chennai will organise National Corporate Law Moot Court Competition and National Judgment Writing Competition on Corporate Law from February 12 to 14 at the college in city.

Addressing media persons on Thursday, JSSLC Principal B Suresh said the competition allowed contestants to ponder over many other subjects of law–Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Finance and Investment Laws, Corporate Law and Law of Taxation.

The problem covers and paves way to include certain specialised areas like Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) guidelines, Foreign Institutional Investors (FII), Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI), Foreign Direct Investors (FDI) and International Treaty, he added. 

The principal said nearly 30 teams from across the country, including nine National Law Schools were participating in the competition.

Former judge of High Court justice Pachchapure will inaugurate the event and Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi, Vice-Chancellor C S Patil will preside over inaugural function. National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, Registrar O V Nandimath will attend the inaugural function.

Experts of International Taxation, Chartered Accountants, Company Secretaries, Judicial Officers and Advocates would be arriving as juries. High Court judge Justice S Sujatha will deliver the valedictory address on February 14 and Commissioner of Income-Tax (International Tax), Bengaluru, Chandana Ramachandran will preside over. Additional Solicitor General, Karnataka, Prabhulinga Navadgi will be the guest.

The competition is open for students, who are studying LLB three year or five year courses during the current academic year. Students of the Institute of Chartered Accounts of India and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India are also eligible to participate.
