Former home secretary G K Pillai’s remarks on an affidavit regarding the terror outfit LeT’s links with Ishrat Jahan on Friday triggered a political war of words in Parliament.

And it also gave an opportunity to the BJP to feel vindicated as it officially re-issued two articles written by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who as an opposition leader, had charged similarly that the affidavits were altered to implicate Narendra Modi.

In the Lok Sabha,  BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh Anurag Thakur on Friday referred to news reports that quoted former UPA minister P Chidamabaram making statement that the case of Afzal Guru was perhaps not correctly decided and former Union home secretary G Pillai on Ishrat Jahan encounter case affidavit was changed at the “political level”.

“It was an attempt to fix Modi...it was a conspiracy to put in dock political rivals by the previous (UPA) government,” the politician-cum-cricket administrator said. “Who changed the affidavit (in the Ishrat Jahan case), the nation wants to know,” asked Thakur.

The BJP member’s move drew sharp reaction from opposition benches, with Congress and CPM MPs objecting to what they said Lok Sabha presiding officer selectively allowing some members to raise issues.
