HC upholds Roja's suspension

In a major setback to YSR Congress, a division bench of the High Court of Judicature has issued a stay on a single bench decision to quash suspension of MLA RK Roja.

Admitting AP Assembly’s appeal challenging the single bench order to quash the Speaker’s suspension of Roja, chief justice Dilip B Bhosale and justice B Naveen Rao relied on the premise that the judicial review is limited to the motion passed by the legislature to suspend Roja and not on the basis of rule 340(2) that would allow a member’s suspension only for the duration of the session in progress.
