Like the previous year, members of radical separatist group Dukhtaran-e-Millat (Daughters of Faith) led by Asiya Andrabi, on Wednesday raised Pakistani flags in Srinagar to mark neighbouring country’s National Day.

Reports said burqa clad activists of Dukhtaran hoisted Pakistani flags at several places in the Srinagar including city centre Lal Chowk and civil lines areas.

The police later removed the flags. Andrabi and her dozen odd women supporters have been hoisting Pakistani flags every year on the occasion of Pakistan Day and Independence Day of the country on August 14.

Burqa-clad Andrabi, associated with the hardline Hurriyat faction led by Syed Ali Geelani, was booked last year in March under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for unfurling the Pakistani flag and singing its national anthem along with some of her supporters.

Andrabi has been maintaining that she “does not hoist Pakistani flag on Indian soil but hoist it on the soil of Jammu and Kashmir which is a disputed territory and is not a part of India.”
