Actor Priyamani has no dates to part with this year shuttling as she is between her various movie projects and judging a reality show. She says she is overwhelmed by the love and support she has received from people after she entered the small screen as a judge for a dance show. With some interesting roles in hand, Priyamani is out to explore more work. In a chat with Nina C George, she talks about her latest ventures and what keeps her going.

What’s your character in ‘Kalpana 2’?

I play the role of Upendra’s romantic interest in the film. Since the film is the remake of ‘Kanchana2’, I play exactly the same character as in the original. But, I have tried to bring in my flavour to my character and I hope people will like the little twist I’ve brought in.

When did you and Upendra last work together?

I last worked with Upendra sir almost 8 years ago in the Telugu movie, ‘Toss’, where I played the role of his visually challenged sister. Now, we are working together in ‘Kalpana 2’.

What’s it like working with Upendra?

He’s an extremely jovial and lively person. His warmth and broad smile is more than enough to light up the entire set. He makes sure the actors involved in the project always get an idea of the larger picture. This, he believes, will help them perform their role better.

What’s your next project?

I have ‘Dana Kayonu’ which is ready for release and another project with Prakash Raj is almost done. It will be my first movie with Prakash sir. Although, the film is a remake, Prakash has managed to bring in sarcastic humour to suit local tastes. It’s a different story and my role, as Prakash puts it, is like water which will take the shape of the container it is poured into. In the movie, my character is such that it will adapt to any situation.

You seem to be enjoying judging the reality show ‘D4 Dance’?

I totally love it. We’re successfully into the 3rd season and we have contestants from across the country, including remote places in Jharkhand. We also, for the first time, have a transgender as a contestant which is indeed very heartening. We judge to help the dancers improve and never to run them down or criticise them.

Have you found the perfect life partner in Mustafa Raj?

Absolutely. After my parents, Mustafa has been extremely supportive and very encouraging. He has given me the freedom to work for as long as I want, even after our marriage.

When can we expect the wedding? Is it going to be a grand affair?

The wedding will be held by this year-end or early next year. We have decided to have a registered marriage, considering that both of us are from different backgrounds and we don’t want to hurt any religious sentiments. But, yes, we will host a grand reception thereafter.
