The Uppoor-Uggelbettu-Heroor Road, which connects Uppoor, Kolalagiri and Chantaru villages, is full of potholes and not fit for the movement of people. But, the elected representatives and officials have done the least to develop the road, the villagers have said.

They said the bridge constructed at a cost of Rs 1.22 crore across Madisalu stream in Uggelbettu  four years ago is of no use owing to bad roads. Similarly, the vented dam, which connects Uppoor and Chantaru villages, has been of little use.

The 8.5 foot wide and 69 metre long bridge was constructed for the benefit of the villagers. Light vehicles can move on the bridge. As the roads are not asphalted, vehicle riders hesitate pass through them. In summer, the road will be full of dust while in rainy season, it will be filled with slush, the villagers claimed.

A road near Chantaru Gram Panchayat has been asphalted at a cost of Rs 2 lakh. But, this is a pothole-ridden road now and has not yet been repaired. At another place, the road belongs to Uppoor Gram Panchayat and the road is not asphalted, they complained.

A source in the Panchayat said the road in Chantaru Gram Panchayat limits will be concretised at a cost of Rs 10 lakh and the one at Uppoor will be developed at a cost of Rs 5 lakh. But as the one-km Uggelbettu Road will remain undeveloped, the movement of vehicles be affected, they said and  urged the elected representatives to develop all the roads to facilitate smooth movement of people and vehicles.
