Cops rescue 'harassed' teenage domestic help

VV Puram police and volunteers of Odanadi Seva Samsthe, in a joint operation on Friday, claim to have rescued a teenaged domestic help, who was allegedly being tortured by her employer, also a woman.

The girl, working at a paying guest accommodation in Gokulam here, was identified as Radhika (name changed), a native of Andhra Pradesh. Her tumultuous journey began at the age of six, when she was hired by an affluent family in Hyderabad to look after a mentally challenged person.

However, it is not known what happened later, as Radhika is yet to come to terms to narrate her ordeal there, according to volunteers.

In Mysuru, Radhika’s enduring life started five months ago, when a woman identified as Sharmila, employed with a private insurance company, brought her to Cristino Rani Oyalla. Oyalla runs a PG accommodation for foreigners learning Yoga in the city.

According to Radhika, Oyalla, who promised to open a bank account and directly deposit her salary to the account, later reneged on her promise. Whenever Radhika was found inept in job, she was treated badly by Oyalla. Oyalla kept a tab on all of Radhika’s activities through the closed circuit TV cameras with the help of internet on her cellphone. If she was found talking to anybody or went out awhile, Radhika had to face the wrath of Oyalla.

Rojestone, a foreigner who learnt about the travails of Radhika, tipped off Odanadi. The girl is currently lodged at Odanadi, after recording her statement at VV Puram station.

The police team was led by Inspector C V Ravi, while Odanadi volunteers were led by Stanely, Parashuram, Asha and Gayathri Devi.
