A 57-year-old bank manager committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his flat in Jayanagar 9th Block in the early hours of Wednesday.

Police said Sudhindra Murthy (in pic), a resident of Shanthi Park Apartments, was working as a senior manager in the JP Nagar branch of Canara Bank. He was living with his wife and one daughter while another daughter was living with her husband.

Around 1 am on Wednesday, Murthy’s wife found him sitting in front of the puja room and asked him what was wrong. He told her he was not able to sleep and wanted to spend some time alone. He asked her to go to her room and said he would go to bed later. When his wife and daughter woke up in the morning, they found him hanging from the ceiling in the drawing room. They informed the family members and the Tilak Nagar police, who examined the house and found a death note, said the police. The note stated he was under pressure from his seniors to recover money from a borrower who had failed to repay a bank loan.

The note also stated that he was denied a promotion, though he was eligible to be promoted as assistant general manager (AGM), the police added. The Tilak Nagar police registered a case.
