<div>A 17-year-old youth drowned while trying to swim in Bagalur lake on Tuesday evening.<br />The police identified the deceased as Jagadish, a resident of Kariyannanapalya in Banaswadi.<br /><br /> He was a student at Shalini School in Lingarajapuram and was promoted from ninth standard to tenth standard. On Tuesday afternoon, he went to play cricket with his friends in Bagalur. Later, they went to Bagalur lake to beat the heat. Jagadish jumped into the water and struggled to stay afloat and started drowning. His friends, who were standing on the bank, noticed that he did not come out and fled. Towards night, Jagadish's father Narayanswamy, a labourer, noticed that his son had not returned home and went looking for him. He approached the Banaswadi police and lodged a missing complaint, said the police. <br /><br />Meanwhile, Jagadish's friends came to Narayanswamy and told him about the incident. In the early hours of Wednesday, they informed the Banaswadi police, who alerted the Bagalur police. Firemen fished out the body, added the police.
