CPM favours women's entry in all temples: Kodiyeri

Last Updated 12 July 2016, 18:57 IST

CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Tuesday said his party favoured the entry for women into all temples.

The remark comes a day after the CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala backed in the Supreme Court the existing restrictions on the entry of women aged between 10 and 50 years into the Ayyappa Temple in Sabarimala.

The state government had on Monday submitted in the apex court that it was not in favour of countering an earlier affidavit in this connection, filed by the previous Congress-led government.

“The CPM is of the opinion that all women should be allowed to enter all temples…a fresh affidavit will be filed in this connection,” Balakrishnan told reporters here.

The CPM secretary, however, added that it was up to the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), which manages the administration of the temple, to submit to the Supreme Court the “practical issues” in connection with the entry of women into the temple.
