Brother-in-law of victim among five held for kidnapping

The Kumbalgodu police arrested five persons  in connection with a kidnapping case.

The suspects are Abhi alias Avinash, 21, a resident of Ramanagaram town, Chethan Kumar, 31, Lakkasandra in Kasaba hobli of Ramanagaram district, Rakesh, 24, Bannikuppe, Keerthi Gowda, 26, Kootagal of Ramanagaram taluk and Kiran, 24, Ramanagaram district hospital quarters, said the police.

Another suspect, Praveen, 27, an advocate from Padarahalli in Ramanagaram, is at large and efforts are on to trace him. Chethan Kumar owns a mobile phone store and Kiran worked as a process server in Ramanagaram District Court, said police.

A gang of around five men had kidnapped Girish,a businessman from Bheemanakuppe near Challaghatta in Kengeri hobli on the evening on July 21 in a car. The kidnappers used Girish’s phone, called up his father Muddanna, a retired government official and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. The police launched a search as Muddanna lodged a complaint. The police traced the suspects at Kottagalu near Harohalli in Kanakapura based on call details records. The kidnappers had set Girish free and escaped before police reached there.

Police detained Chethan, the husband of Girish’s younger sister as the suspects were in touch with him on phone. Girish confessed that he and Praveen had plotted Girish’s kidnapping for money, added the police.
