Last Updated 18 August 2016, 20:12 IST

Congress President Sonia Gandhi was back in the hospital to remove the stitches put after a surgery she had undergone earlier this month to fix her left shoulder dislocation.

Sonia (69) was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Wednesday evening for “a minor treatment procedure” as decided at the time of her discharge on Sunday. Her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accompanied her to the hospital.

“Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for a minor treatment procedure as per the previous plan. She is doing well and undergoing physiotherapy and rehabilitation,” Dr S P Byotra, vice-chairman (board of management) of the hospital said in a statement.

Sonia is expected to remain in the hospital for a couple of days. The Congress President had taken ill and suffered a dislocation of the left shoulder during a road show in Prime Minster Narendra Modi’s Varanasi constituency on August 2.
