Police hand over valuables worth Rs 2.5 crore to owners

The City police, on Saturday, conducted a property parade in which valuables including gold ornaments, silver articles, electronic goods and vehicles worth Rs 2.5 crore, which were recovered from thieves in 207 theft cases in the city, were returned to the rightful owners.

People who had lost valuables, under 11 police station limits, were present during the parade to collect their recovered items. The police handed over 4.572 kg gold ornaments, 8.153 kg silver articles, 102 two-wheelers, 60 mobile phones, three cars, two autorickshaws, one truck and two laptops.

City Police Commissioner B Dayananda said, all the 207 cases were reported in 2016 at various police stations, in the city. The police, including the City Crime Branch (CCB), have arrested a total of 157 people in connection with these cases.

In three separate cases, CCB police have recovered 1.666 kg gold ornaments and 8.3 kg silver articles worth Rs 42.34 lakh. CCB police have arrested nine people in connection with these cases.

People-friendly police
Expressing her gratitude to the City Police, Sowmya Sada, a resident of Kesare in Naidunagar, who received her 75 gram gold ornaments, said, “I had a negative opinion about police personnel, earlier. But, police are trying to become people-friendly”.

Sada’s house was burgled on January 1, when all the family members were out of the city. Sada said, “The police had instilled confidence in her family members and had expressed confidence of recovering the stolen valuables. I am greatful to the police.

The police also behaved courteously when we visited the station.”Lakshmidevi, an advocate, who received her stolen ‘mangalasutra’, said, people are ignorant about the duties and responsibilities of the police in the society.
