Script for success

AWARDS GALORE

Eight years ago, cinema news house Sri Raghavendra Chitravani started an award function to felicitate talents from the film industry and from the field of journalism. Today, with the support of Rajkumar family, actor Vishnuvardhan and many other artistes, they have been able to give out almost 15 awards to all those who have excelled in the field of cinema.

At the eighth annual Sri Raghavendra Chitravani Awards 2009, which was held recently at the Bell Hotel, Venkatesh from Chitravani, said, “This is a proud moment for all of us in the company. We had initially started with just two awards, one for a director and one for a journalist. But today, with the support of journalists as well as people from the industry, we are giving out 15 awards, which is a huge step for us. We only hope that in future, we can keep growing and give out more awards.”

The chief guests for the evening were Karnataka Film Commerce of Chamber
president, Jayamala, film producer K C N Chandrashekhar and film personality K S L Swamy. Hosts Venkatesh and his brother Sunil graciously welcomed each guest and made sure everyone was comfortable and well looked after.

Each of the awardees were felicitated individually for their work. The small, but pleasant, gathering saw the presence of many journalists and film personalities. While director S Mahendar, who awarded the K V Jayaram Memorial Award, for best story for Akka Thangi, was seen surrounded by people; director Summana Kittur, who was awarded the B Suresh Award for debutant director (Slum Bala), was seen making small talk with everyone there.

Almost all the speakers highlighted the emotional attachment with the Sri Raghavendra Chitravani and said this special award was something very close to their hearts. The evening also saw the launch of a book by journalists Devashetty Mahesh and Vinayakram Kalagaru called, Suddisetu Sadhaka. “Having completed doing public relations work for 1,000 Kannada films, we decided to release a book on our father, D V Sudheendra, the founder of Chitravani,” said Sunil. The book was released by Ravi Belagere.
